The New York Liberty clinched a 2024 WNBA playoff berth on Wednesday, August 17, 2024, behind the best start in franchise history. The Liberty improved to 18-8 with a 103-68 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, their eighth win in their last nine games.

Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Natasha Howard added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Betnijah Laney scored 16 points.

What's Next for the Liberty?

The Liberty will return to action on Friday, August 19, when they host the Seattle Storm. The Storm are currently the No. 1 seed in the WNBA standings.

The Liberty will then finish their regular season with a three-game road trip against the Las Vegas Aces, Phoenix Mercury, and Dallas Wings.

Head Coach Sandy Brondello Comments

“I’m really proud of this team,” Liberty Head Coach Sandy Brondello said. “We’ve worked hard all season, and it’s great to see it pay off with a playoff berth.”

“We’re not done yet, though. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is a great step in the right direction.”

The Liberty's success this season has been a team effort, with all five starters averaging double figures in scoring. Ionescu has been the team's leader, averaging 18.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.

The Liberty's defense has also been a key factor in their success, as they rank among the top five teams in the WNBA in points allowed per game.
